HR Essentials Series: Part 10: The Small Business HR Compliance Test
Different countries and jurisdictions will have various requirements to attain and maintain legislative compliance. Here is a quick test that reviews some of the key concepts we have been talking about in this series. Let’s check your business’ compliance level.
Honestly answer the following questions:
- Do you have an Employee Handbook or Human Resources Policies and Procedures Manual?
- Is your Policy Manual reviewed annually to ensure ongoing legislative compliance?
- Does your policy manual include updates that reflect changes in technology, e.g. Social Media, Cameras in the workplace, etc.?
- Do you have policies surrounding key issues such as workplace harassment, violence in the workplace, and substance abuse?
If you have answered ‘No’ to any of the questions above, it is time to speak to a HR Business Partner to understand and mitigate your risks.
Having an honest and open conversation with your HR Consultant or Employment Lawyer can prevent you from spending more later if you are not adequately protected with policies and procedures that protect your company and its employees.
