Companies Hire Awesome!
Have you ever wondered why you go through so many recruitment processes but never get selected? Are you reviewing your resume and your interview performance and still wondering why you’ve never made the cut? Here’s why. Companies are hiring 'Awesome', not good. In this era with hundreds and thousands of candidates applying, companies have the opportunity to select from very highly qualified, experienced and tenacious candidates. It is taking more to stand out in the competitive market place today. Here are three ways to stand out and show companies that you are not just good, but Awesome.
This may not come as a surprise, but competence is on the top 3 most valuable qualities on almost every employer’s checklist. You may be thinking that you have already covered that on your resume and in the interview, but you need to reinforce that in more unique ways if you really want to drive the point home and stand out.
All the personality and skill you can sell will fall flat if you are not seen as a good ‘fit’ with the company and department culture. Contrary to what many people may say, companies do look for diversity when hiring. However, there is a delicate balance between diversity that is functional vs diversity that is disruptive. Most companies understand the logic of diversity driving innovation and continuous improvement, but if personalities and characteristics are polarized, that is a definite disadvantage. You will not be ‘Awesome’ for that company if you are not a good company fit so do your research.
Have you ever been held accountable? Has your manager or colleagues every told you that are the one person they can count on to get things done? If you answered yes to both those questions, you may have one of the most sought after qualities, accountability. Spoiler alert, many other candidates say they have that too. If you want to move from good to Awesome you need to find ways to bring that across effectively. Demonstrating your accountability on your resume is only half the battle. Step your game up by using it in other areas in your interaction with a potential employer.
With the constant focus on hiring better, finding better talent and hiring top talent, it is always becoming more difficult for companies to identify top talent and for top candidates to stand out. Today’s job seeker can level up by improving how they demonstrate competence, company fit and accountability.
